What this tool does
Click a line of text and retype it: it is replaced inside the document itself, in its own font, in its own place. Clear the field and the line truly disappears; the lines around it do not move. The old text is not left underneath: unlike a white patch, it will not resurface on copy and paste. A font can only write the characters it carries: when one is missing, the line is redrawn in a matched font and we say so plainly. You can also place text, a stroke, a highlight, a frame or an image on top. It all happens in this tab.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the text really replaced, or just covered?
- Really replaced, in the document itself, in its place and in its own font. The old text does not linger underneath: unlike a white patch, it does not come back on a copy-paste. Empty the field and the line truly disappears, without its neighbours moving.
- Why does my line change appearance after editing?
- Because a font can only write the characters it already carries. When one is missing (an accent, a quotation mark, a Chinese character), the line is redrawn in a close substitute, and the tool names it, while you type rather than after the export.
- Can I add an image or a line?
- Yes: free text, a stroke, a highlight, a frame and an image can all be placed on the page, and moved with the pointer or the arrow keys. Everything happens in this tab.
