What is processed, and how

Data controller

22 tools transmit nothing

They run in your browser. The file is not uploaded; there is nothing to upload. The work happens on your machine, and it still works with no network once the page has loaded. No data reaches us, not even the file name.

9 tools upload the file

Office conversion, OCR, translation, PDF/A, repair. Those need software that does not fit in a browser. The file is then written to the server, processed, then deleted: the original as soon as processing ends, the result at most 2 hours later, and immediately once you have downloaded it. No backup is taken, and no copy is made elsewhere, except the text that translation hands to its provider (below). The amber dot, on every tool concerned, says so before you drop anything. Legal basis: performing the service you ask for by dropping the file.

Translation goes through a language model

It is the only tool that hands your text to a third party: the text content of the translated pages is sent to OpenAI, which translates it. Its published policy states that content sent through its API is not used to train its models and is kept for at most 30 days for abuse monitoring. Put plainly: if a document must not leave Europe, do not translate it here. Legal basis: performing the service you ask for.

IP address

It is used to count submissions, so that a handful of bots cannot make the service unusable. It is held in memory and never written to a database: one hour after your last submission, and 24 hours after your last free translation, so that the daily cap can apply. The web server logs keep it for 14 days, after which the files are destroyed. Legal basis: the legitimate interest in protecting a free service from abuse.

Internal measurement

Every job processed by the server leaves one row: which tool, how many pages, how long, and for translation how many tokens were spent. No file name, no content, no address, nothing that identifies anyone. It exists to know the real cost of a job, and nothing else.

Cookies and local storage

No cookies at all (not for sessions, not for measurement, not for advertising) and no resource loaded from another domain: you can check this in your browser's network tab. The light or dark theme and the state of the rail are kept in your browser's local storage: they never travel over the network. To work offline, the site also keeps in your browser a copy of its code, its fonts and the pages you have already opened; no document goes into it, and the copy is replaced with each version of the site.

Audience measurement

Visits are counted, and it is better said plainly. The tool is Umami, installed on the same server as this site: the measurements go to nobody else, there is no intermediary they could serve. It sets no cookie and does not follow you from one site to another. From your IP address and your browser, it computes an identifier that changes on the first day of each month: for a month, the same browser on the same connection is recognised from one visit to the next. What is recorded: the page viewed and its address, the page you came from, the language, the screen size, the browser, the operating system, the kind of device, the country, the region and the city. What never is: your IP address itself, the names of your files, what they contain. These measurements are kept for 25 months at most. Legal basis: the legitimate interest in knowing which tools are useful, since that is what decides which ones get improved. You can object below: this browser will stop sending anything, and the choice is kept in its local storage.

Correspondence, quotes and outreach

A message written to contact@atelierdocs.com (a question, a quote request) is kept in that mailbox with our replies, for the duration of the exchange and then at most 3 years after the last message, so a discussion can be resumed or a quote drawn up. Legal basis: steps you ask us to take before a contract, or our legitimate interest in answering you. The publisher also writes, once and with a single follow-up, to professionals to present a tool related to their work. Their address comes from a public page of their organisation, from their Google Maps listing, or from a directory of published business addresses; those pages and listings are collected by a data service, the address may be checked by an email validation service, and the first message names the source. The list keeps, for no other use, the organisation, the name the person is greeted by, the sector, the city, the address and its source, the page that prompted the message, the messages exchanged and their dates, proof of your consent where the law requires it, and our notes, at most 3 years after the last exchange; someone who has not been written to is removed from it after 30 days. Replies to these messages are read automatically in our mailbox, and only those, so that nobody gets a follow-up after answering. Replying “no”, or following the unsubscribe link in every message, is enough to receive nothing more: 7 days later, only the address is kept, on an opt-out list, since it is what prevents writing again. Legal basis: legitimate interest, or your consent where the law of your country requires it.
